CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) Camera as we know it is a surveillance system that is meant to provide safety and security. However, over time it has evolved into a product that is more than just for surveillance but for other functions and benefits. Some of which includes Access Control, Thermal Scanner and Digital Image processing all from the developments of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recent years. Thus, we would like to discuss further on the developments of CCTV Camera throughout the years.

CCTV was first founded to analyse rockets in a safe distance through a camera and a screen monitor. It was then developed into more than just for live monitoring, but also as a recording device with the development of VCR (Videocassette Recorder). However, only one channel can be viewed in one monitor, thus the multiplexers were found. The innovation that was able to split channels into 4 different cameras. It advanced from the VCR that did not have a lot of storage space, to DVRs (Digital Video Recorder) and until recently, NVRs (Network Video Recorder). The biggest difference between the different recorders have been the quality of the recordings and also the type of cameras they are connected to, either an Analog or IP Camera

Nowadays, CCTVs have then emerged into more than just a surveillance system. Especially since CCTVs now have exceptionally high resolutions, it has developed into something more innovative with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Some of its features include Motion Detection, Fire Detection, Smoke Detection, Theft Detection and even up to Human Fall Down Detection and vandalism. These features are possible because of the programming within NVRs. These developments have also changed CCTV into a better source of safety. Since people cannot monitor CCTVs 24 hours a day, having these live detections performed by the camera and recorder themselves is highly beneficial for security personnel.

Similarly, with the advancement in CCTV, businesses can also acquire data by simply setting up CCTV cameras. With the use of AI, they are able to track customer behaviours, their experience, traffic prediction, transaction analysis, customer loyalty and even manage queues. These features are exceptionally beneficial for companies to manage sales and analyse their overall effectiveness of their current marketing strategy. Similarly, it can also help them by predicting customer behaviour to cater to their market’s needs, making it easier to develop the right strategy in the future. Furthermore, it can also be utilised as a method of security feature by predicting people’s behaviours. These features can inform the company on any suspicious behaviours that needs to be observed more closely to prevent criminal activities from taking place.

Aside from the detection features that are able to analyse situations better through AI, CCTV Cameras can also be utilised for other situations aside from security. Now, it is also possible for businesses to integrate CCTV with Attendance and Access Control. The features include face recognition, thermal scanner, mask detection, VIP, white list or black listers as well. However, there is a significant difference between the two and what they are responsible for. The Attendance and Access Control are filled with information about the people who are included in the information, the CCTV Cameras are integrated as part of a surveillance product that can inform the Access Control whether a person is allowed to enter a location. Access Control without CCTV would require people to either key in a pin, use an RFID card or use their fingerprint to be allowed entry. However, with the use of CCTV, these steps can be eliminated and access can be managed more conveniently with face recognition

Additionally, in the current COVID-19 situation, since we are now in the New Normal, temperature checks are necessary everywhere we go before we are allowed entry. Being able to use CCTV that has a thermal scanner feature is highly beneficial, making it significantly easier to track people with high temperature. This will significantly decrease the amount of investment needed to pay employees who need to individually check each person’s temperature, reduce their risk of being in close contact with people who may be sick and also reducing waiting time substantially when entering a location.

Therefore, investing in a BXTF-19 (Biotronix Thermal and Face Scanner) - a thermal scanner that can be integrated with attendance and access control for your company would be helpful in marking attendance while following proper measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. This would help businesses return to the New Normal without worrying about spreading coronavirus.
